April 2009

April's meeting was very busy. A discussion on detecting classes, and how much everyone liked them started us off. Bob and Marcos have done an excellent job of putting them together. The March Class, held at Beck Park in Oxnard had a great turn out, with tips and information being shared by the teachers as well as some of the more experienced hunters. The seeded hunt was the highlight of the day, with many wheat pennies, a couple of silver dimes and a silver quarter for the taking. Thanks again Bob and Marcos.

New business cards were handed out, with updated info. Such as the addition of our website. Classes were cancelled in April due to the 6th annual "BEACH HUNT" thrown by Jim L. on the saturday following thursdays meeting. With a 9 am start we all set out to find some treasure! Prizes were also given out, like an Indian Head Penny, Mercury Dime, 1939 Jefferson Nickel and several "V" nickels. All had fun, and thanks to Jerry's Tab and Bottle Cap Contest the beach was a lot cleaner at the end of the day. We here at gctreasurehunters.com would like to thank Jim for all his work. See you again next year!

Also discussed at the meeting were club rules and procedures, put together by Ron B. After several modifications and rewrites the draft was finally approved by the club. Ron did a great job.

The club has recently started having auctions, with all items donated to the benefit of the club. Keene engineering gave us a gold pan and a baseball cap with there logo. Jerry, got the pan, and I had to have the cap! Also donated were several probes donated by Bill B. They were very nice and drew several bids. Who knows what will be auctioned next month?

After voting on the best finds of the month, two hunters stood out. Bill B and Marcos F. In the "overall" category. Witch is all finds accumilated from meeting to meeting. There was a tie between Bill and Marcos, with the cut of the cards going to Bill. Same with the "Jewelry" category Bill and Marcos also tied, but once again Bill came out on top.The "Coin/Token" and "Unusual Finds" category's were both won by Marcos. Good job guys!

On a final note, the 50/50 drawing was won by Jerry, and the membership drawing by Marcos, and everyone had a great time!
