March 2009 Blog

This months meeting was a great success, we discussed the rules of the club, previewed whites new detector (Vision).  Voted on Finds of the Month and planned our Club Hunt in April.  The Winner of the 50/50 drawing was Tom C, winning $36.  The club membership drawing of a Silver Round went to Bob C.  And everyone had a great time!

Saturday the 28th was are monthly Detecting Class, the beginner class started at 8:00 am at Beck Park in Oxnard.  Bob had many new students, and some old ones too.  We compared detectors, and went over the basics on how to get them to work properly, and went over on how to identify good targets from bad.  At 10:00 am Marcos took over with the Advanced Class, demonstrating a coin program he had developed for the DFX.  And how to identify deep silver coins with trash above them.  Things really got interesting when we had a "prompt to" competition hunt.  Among the many clad coins on the surface there were wheat penny's mixed in, and two silver dimes were buried at three inches.  Everyone was scrambling for the silver dimes, also a nickel was buried with a mark on it, who ever found it got a silver quarter...  It was a big success, can't wait for next months class!
